Predictions for 2007
I know it's a little bit late to be posting predictions for the new year, but I've been busy and I want to get this right. Let's look at the current state of things and where they've been in the past year. The economy is booming, gasoline has been steadily dropping and is expected to go down below $2 a gallon soon. I know that's not the $0.95 that we used to see, but considering that they pay about $4 a gallon in the UK, I'd say it's not a bad deal. I don't care what you've heard on CBS, the situation in Iraq is improving. Do some poking around to find interviews with our soldiers who are actually over there doing the job and see what they say if you don't believe me. It doesn't get widely reported, but we're catching terrorists on a regular basis. Many of them either on our own soil or trying to get across the border. The one big issue that I haven't seen improve is the illegal immigration mess.
Now to the predictions. Queen Pelosi is pushing a new energy bill that will not only hose any drops in fuel prices but more than likely bring them up. I know it sounds unfair for big oil companies to get big tax breaks, but taking them away is only going to raise the price at the pump.
On with the economy, this raising the minimum wage mess is going to cause trouble, too. Sure, it sounds great for the people earning minimum wage, but think about it. Most of the jobs that pay minimum wage are in places such as fast food restaurants, gas stations and grocery and department stores. In other words, the places that we visit a few times a week to pick up our necessities. If these places have to pay their workers more, they're going to raise prices to compensate. Do you really think that they'll be willing to give up any profits? It will probably even out for the folks making the minimum because they've gotten the government regulated raise, but what of us middle classers? I'm not rich by any stretch of the word, but I do make considerably more than $6.50 or whatever the new rate is an hour. I'd place myself in the lower-middle class bracket. We in the middle, will be paying more for things like clothes and groceries and the folks who the wage increase was supposed to benefit aren't any better off than they were before. This was nothing but a Democrat sponsored stunt to win votes.
As for Iraq, I hate to say it, but I think we're screwed. Democrats in the House and Senate who before November's election were screaming to send in more troops are now condemning Bush for his recent decision to send 20,000 more. Our noble soldiers can't even open fire on an enemy taking aim at them without looking over their shoulder to make sure there isn't a camera pointing there way. I'm not saying all Democrats are bad, but this policy of disagreeing with every move the President makes has got to stop. If we ever want this thing to end, we need to let our military get their job done without having to worry about the mainstream media and the "liberals" as they call themselves making them out to be monsters.
So there you have it, my magic 8 ball is predicting a rough year ahead. With any luck, I'll remember that I created this post a year from now and we can see how close I am to the mark. One more prediction before I sign off, by 2008 the general public will finally realize that it's time to get off their asses and become educated about the world. Maybe that's just wishful thinking.
